Prologue

The rain lashed against the windows, painting streaks of silver across the dark room. Aarohi’s fingers trembled as she clutched the letter, the words blurring as her mind raced. “If you step into this world, there will be no turning back.”

Her heart pounded, but it wasn’t just the warning—it was the memory of the man whose eyes seemed to burn into her very soul. She had seen him only once, months ago, standing at the edge of a crowded street, a figure cloaked in shadow, and yet… somehow, she had never forgotten him.

The door creaked behind her. She froze, every instinct screaming that she wasn’t alone. A shadow moved in the corner of the room. Not a stranger—someone who knew far too much about her.

“You shouldn’t have read it,” a deep voice murmured, calm yet edged with danger.

Aarohi swallowed hard. “Who… who are you?”

The shadow stepped forward, and the dim light caught the sharp outline of a face that was both terrifying and familiar. “Let’s just say… some promises are meant to be kept, and some are meant to be broken.”

And with that, the door slammed shut, leaving Aarohi alone with her fear—and the knowledge that nothing in her life would ever be the same again.
